We Didn’t Miss Our Coffee in Spite of the Floods.

I’ve mentioned several times that the walk from Skelwith Bridge along the River Brathay to Elterwater is one of our favourites – followed by morning coffee or afternoon tea at the popular Chesters cafe. It is, of course, possible to reverse the walk from Elterwater to Skelwith Bridge.

The path is maintained by the National Trust and there is a NT car park at Elterwater at the beginning of the walk. Last weekend we decided to start from Elterwater but the weather had the better of us. We walked about 3/4 mile when we found that the bridge over a small tributory to the River Brathay was flooded. We retraced our steps and found Slates, a delightful cafe in the very pretty village of Elterwater, so, we didn’t miss out on our morning coffee after all.
