On A Sunny Day…

On a sunny day last week, we decided that we would take a drive through the Kirkstone Pass.

Approaching from the south, we took the A591 by passing Kendal, after passing through Windermere we came to a mini roundabout which forms the junction with the A592. We turned right here onto the Patterdale Road and enjoyed the lovely scenery. We went on and passed the small but perfectly formed Brotherswater – one lake we’d never heard of. Continuing on we came to Patterdale and a little further on we arrived at Genridding on Ullswater. We stopped for a coffee and scone at a café overlooking he lake and then walked down to the pier from where the ferry leaves on trips around the lake.

We continued our journey following the road around the lake until we reached a left hand turn towards Dockery. We followed this road until we reached Troutbeck and met the A66. Turning left, we went through Keswick and joined the B5289 to Borrowdale. When we reached the village of Stonethwaite, we turned left and reached our destination, The Langstrath Country Inn where we enjoyed a very tasty lunch and took this photo of Bunty.

We retraced our steps and stopped at the Aira Force waterfall (National Trust Property). It was getting late but we took Bunty down to the river. Continuing our journey, just after we reached the Pass Inn on the Kirkstone Pass we turned right and returned to Ambleside via “the Struggle” a steep and picturesque route, before setting off for home.

A lovely day, beautiful scenery, a tasty lunch and a walk in the woods – a wonderful way to spend a day.
